I started off today taking photos of Juniper and Petunia the kittens (I’ve posted their photos below). Then from 11-1 I sent out Facebook and Twitter updates through that came from Lauren working at the HACC internship fair. Then I spent the rest of my day updated all of the upcoming events on facebook and pinterest, uploading photos onto our website, and sending out adoption alerts for this weekend on Facebook and Twitter.

Today I posted thank yous on our Facebook page for items donated this weekend, I posted an adoption story for Sam and Ella with a photo of their new families, I uploaded photos from the Tailwaggers Trot event this weekend unto our server and unto our facebook page, and I updated petfinder and pinterest with our available animals. I also took pictures of Lucinda the cat and Squash the Cat for our website which I have showing below, and I wrote a profile for Lucinda which is posted below her picture.

 Lucinda 1

Meet Lucinda! This precious little girl was known in her old neighborhood for her loyalty and love! She could be found following the kids unto the school bus in the morning and waiting for them in the afternoons when they came home. Her love seems to be endless and she’s looking for a family that will love her endlessly right back! Lucinda is a 5 year-old, female, white, orange and black domestic shorthair. You can see in her eyes how thankful she is for every stroke you pet her, and she’ll rub back and forth up against you with gratitude! Lucinda would make a perfect addition to any family willing to give her the love and attention she deserves!

Today I had my cat handling training. I learned how to take cats in and out of their cages, how to clean cages if they need it, where I could take the cats to play and photograph them, where all of food and blankets and toys are, and how to properly sanitize between cat handling. I  was cleared after my session to handle cats.

Today at the Humane League I updated our Pinterest boards, updated petfinder, and wrote profiles for the huskies (Nala and Bandit). Then I sent available animals as well as upcoming events through out Facebook news feed. I also spent the last portion of my day taking pictures of Lydia and Bowie ( Ginnie pigs), and Bella (Eski mix dog) since they just came in so they could be added to our website and social media advertising. Here are a few examples of the photos I took today….Bella 1

Today I wrote up a dog profile for Ella, which I provided an example of below, and I helped Laura get papers together and ready for Comcast who was going to be coming to shoot a segment for “Pets on Demand.” When they arrived I helped the crew with shooting animals by getting them out and ready, playing with the dogs and cats so they could shoot them in action, and helping to coax the small animals such as ginnie pigs out from hiding in their cages so they could be filmed. After that I went back and updated the media memos for the animals that were video taped in their online files, uploaded photos on our Facebook from an outreach event over the weekend, and updated petfinder and our pinterest page, and then finished the day by letting a couple of the dogs out for a little bonus playtime.

Meet Ella! This sweet little girl was brought to us because she wasn’t treated so well in her previous home. She’s hoping that she can find a special family that will love her and take care of her in the way she has always deserved. Ella is a 6 year-old Norwegian Elkhound/Mix with a beautiful black, cream and brown coat. She’s a friendly dog that doesn’t take long to wiggle up to you, but rambunctious children might make her feel a little timid. She loves affection and to be petted and rubbed, and she’s ready to show off her tricks for you as soon as you pull out a treat! She can sit, shake, high five and lay down on command! Believe it or not she has the most fun playing with rocks than with any other toy, so you won’t break the bank on new dog toys! Ella is ready to find her forever home, could that be yours?

Today I spent a lot of time updating with our adoptable and adopted cats and dogs because this site doesn’t update automatically when animals are adopted like our website does. I also worked on updating our Pinterest account that we post what animals are adoptable on, as well as which animals have been adopted, what upcoming events we have going on, and things like that. Today I took some photos of cats playing on the donated shelving cubby units we got over the weekend to put into the cat play areas. We used those photos in correlation with a thank you write up I wrote to post on our Facebook page and website.

Here is the write up and a sample photo of the cubbies:

Thank you for the cozy cubbies for our colony kitties

A huge thank you to the gracious person who donated the shelving units for our cat colony in need! Our cats have already curled up and made themselves at home in the little cubbies! Our Colony A room was recently transformed into a cat colony and was in desperate need of fun, vertical objects to climb on and explore! Although the cats were ok with sleeping on their beds on the floor, we’re so happy we can now provide them with multiple level cubbies to curl up in at night and test their agility and climbing skills on during the day. We love to keep our kitties happy, comfortable, and entertained! They have already gotten a lot of use since they were assembled, and we know that they will continue to provide enjoyment for our cats for years to come! All of our feline friends join in saying, thank you for your thoughtful donation!

I had my dog handling training today so that I would be able to handle the dogs to let them out to play and be able to take pictures of them. This training consisted of getting a tour of the dog kennels and staff rooms,  learning how to leash the dogs as they are being let out of the cages, how to walk them out of the building to the play areas, how to clean up after them, how to sign them in and out of the kennel so everyone knows where they are and when they were let out each day, learning where all of the leashes, treats, toys, blankets, and other supplies are, and how to return them back to their cages and sign them back in. Cynthia was training me, and she as very kind and helpful. Her love for the dogs really showed in her work and I hope that my love for the dogs can be that apparent while I’m working with them as well!
